The ADCOM conference presents a one-day Symposium on 17th December to explore and define newer paradigms in delivering distance education leveraging advanced computing and communications technologies.
The full potential of open and distance learning and open education in India has not been harnessed due to the lack of delivery mechanisms and courseware. Advances in Information and Communications Technology (ICT) initiatives in the higher education landscape have propelled the relevance of open educational resources, which simplify the search for inputs on a particular subject. It is now possible for a subscriber to get multiple inputs from various universities/institutions on the same subject through an open resource.
This symposium is co-sponsored by the Indira Gandhi National Open University [IGNOU] and will debate development of content repositories in as many subjects as possible with wide support for different formats and media. Enhancing the scope of community radios, creation of common access to OER through free software like Skype and creation of metadata will be discussed.
Vice Chancellors of IGNOU, VTU, BPUT will join key educationists, leaders of public and private universities, Heads of Institutions and ICT service providers to deliberate on a new paradigm to reach higher education to distant subscribers.
The day-long meeting will address issues related to –
1. How to improve academic outreach with ICT
2. Choice of technologies
3. Access points and points of service
4. Instruction delivery/pedagogy
5. Content Management
6. Assessment and Certification
Detailed agenda for this meeting will be posted soon.
