Bengaluru, Karnataka, December 5, 2009 /India PRwire/ -- Professor Thomas Kailath is the Hitachi America Professor of Engineering, Emeritus, at Stanford University. He was the first Indian-born student to receive a doctorate in Electrical Engineering from MIT in 1961.
He is a member of Indian National Academy of Engineering, the United States National Academy of Engineering, the United States National Academy of Sciences, American Academy of Arts and Sciences and a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). Dr. Kailath was awarded the 2007 IEEE Medal of Honor for "exceptional development of powerful algorithms in the fields of communications, computing, control and signal processing." Professor Kailath has been elected as a foreign member of the Royal Society, the British national academy of science.
He has been awarded the Padma Bhushan award in 2009 by the Government of India for his contribution to Science and Engineering.
